About Mufaro’s Family Foods
Established in a Kent kitchen in 2003, Mufaro's Family Foods was birthed from a quirky experiment in which Albert Mufaro and his wife Majory intended to replicate, for the kids, the traditional African yoghurts they themselves had grown up on.
From thereon what they'd produced continued to evolve with knowledge and experience until they conceived MUFARO'S CULTURED MILK. To this very day Mufaro's Family Foods is still a family business run by family in which the core values remain entrenched in honesty and simplicity.
Mufaro’s Family Foods has gone from strength to strength and can proudly claim to be the only company in the UK providing traditional and natural African yoghurt and cultured milk products.
The family set about creating new and effective cultured milk products and it wasn’t long before they were garnering interest from relatives, friends and other African born people who wanted a traditional and natural product to not only improve their well-being but also remind them of their heritage.
As our cultured milk products grew, so did our desire to expand and it was not long before we had moved to Erith, where we are now based. This gave us the opportunity to provide our natural and healthy product to customers from across the whole of the UK. Now our Yoghurts are BRC accredited for the safety of our customers and our 'Best before' dates are laser printed on to buckets to ensure food safety guidelines are adhered by vendors.
We have also developed a dairy free variation of our yoghurt, based on Finger Millet, a super grain boasting a wealth of natural health benefits such as the appetite suppressing nature of Tryptophan. Our dairy free variety maintains the prebiotic and probiotic characteristics of Mufaro's Cultured Milk, making it a great way of tilting the balance in favour of good bacteria in your digestive tract. This will ensure that your body is greater prepared to fight infections caused by salmonella and E. coli, as well as disorders like bowel cancer.
We now stock 'Finger Millet' flour, known among various African cultures as 'Zviyo' and 'Uphoko', this wholegrain maize flour is high in fibre and has traditionally been a staple throughout southern Africa. Using 'Zviyo' we have developed 'Jambo', a cultured version of the traditional 'Mahewu' drink which, again, boasts an ordinate amount of pre and probiotic bacteria.
Our healthy and natural low fat yoghurts and low calorie products have now started to gain interest from Europe and customers in Holland and France have taken advantage of not only our exceptional products, but also our professionalism, customer focused approach and friendly staff.
With demand for our African yoghurts, cultured products reaching impressive levels, we have also opened a new site in Harare, Zimbabwe, which allows us to provide our products to fellow Africans and give them a healthier and tastier alternative to their existing versions.
